Pitta diet in Spring
If you have Pitta more dominant in your constitution you will probably feel calmed by the qualities of this season. The oily qualities of this body type can aggravate Pitta during spring by the increase of heat. So in this period is important to keep an eye on moisture and warmth.
In order to balance these characteristics, you should take bitter and astringent food such as barley, beans, vegetables, and salads. Seitan, oat bran, amaranth, and soaked prunes are also a good choice. Pitta tolerates more spices than usual in spring like fresh ginger, coriander, cinnamon, parsley, turmeric, fennel or saffron. Also, the CCF tea (cumin, coriander, and fennel) is great for you.
Sweet taste is wonderful for Pitta types, choose some alternative sweets made from fresh fruit such as fruit crumble or baked apples. These meals soothe this constitution and also support the body in its effect to purify and cleanse the body.
What to avoid Pitta during Spring
Foods that can bring out of balance to Pitta can be honey and hot water, heating spices like garlic or cayenne pepper. You should avoid heating or sour food like grapes, bananas, tomatoes, pineapple or hard cheeses. Doing that will help you to ensure that your system is at its best when you move to Pitta season (summer).
Pitta will feel a really deep benefit if you cultivate a light-hearted and soft approach to life. Be kind to yourself. For your morning Abhyanga massage, you should try sunflower oil instead of sesame oil. Also, the sauna can balance the oily qualities of Pitta, but if the weather is too hot it can cause you to overheat. You should try to do some light exercise but making sure you do not sweat and overheat.
For yoga, you should minimize inversions in preparation for summer months and incorporate standing poses, twists and forward folds to your routine. In your daytime try to pay attention to relaxation.
You do not need a long list to be in balance, regularity and doing less is good for Pitta types! Very important is that you do not expose to the sun directly for a long period of time especially when the sun is at its peak. Sun at the sunrise or sunset its ok, for the rest, find a nice shadow! Try to relax and be ok without doing much. Even though it is a difficult thing for you can do it.
